Dismals Canyon is a Natural Landmark located in Phil Campbell, Alabama.

It is a primordial canyon and one of only a few places in the world where dismalites exist. They are a form of fly larvae that emit a bright blue-green light. They cover the canyon walls. You can observe them on night tours of the canyon. I was there during the day, however some of my photographs display white dots on the canyon walls that are the insects.

There are many steps to get into the canyon but once there, you will encounter Rainbow Falls.

Camping is available in both traditional campsites and cabins are also available.

Dennis is walking the canyon ahead of me. He is 6’2″ and is small when compared to the canyon walls in some locations.
