Just before we left Otter Springs, I was having trouble with my shoe as I didn't have a shoehorn and the heal portion folded down. As I struggled to get my foot into the shoe I somehow managed to make a movement that my knee simply didn't like. I felt the knee twisted and moved. I let out a scream in pain with the popping sound of the knee. Great, just great, I couldn't put my leg down straight. I was hoping it would be all right in the morning, if not perhaps we could find a walk-in clinic.
That didn't happen, no walk-in clinics. Finally on Monday, Dennis helped me into the car and we headed to Gainesville to find a hospital where I would get an x-ray. Nothing more exciting than waiting in an emergency room all morning. Finally, I was taken to x-ray. The doctor said if the knee was dislocated it's back in place now. He said it's inflamed and it appears I injured the medial collateral ligament ( MCL) . So, he placed an ace bandage around the knee; and said, " elevate, alternate ice and heat and take ibuprofen. "
